Maximising Water Recovery in Potable Water Treatment
June 11, 2024
Conserving water plays a crucial role when designing a treatment facility that provides drinking water to a community.
Many treatment processes produce backwash water that is generated from cleaning of filtration systems. Recovery of backwash water can increase the overall plant’s water balance if it is not further treated.
“We are currently providing backwash water recovery systems that employ our VeeMax® Thickener technology for some larger water treatment plants in Queensland. The thickener will be provided with mechanical sludge dewatering to effectively manage the solids stream produced in the process, and to build resilience in operations, particularly during wet weather. The recovered backwash water will be returned to the head of works for further treatment.
For solids management we are using our HUBER QPRESS® technology, which we have successfully applied to other potable water plants. We also provide the solids outloading systems as part of a fully integrated package” says Luis Bastos, CEO of Hydroflux Epco Pty Ltd.
VeeMax® Thickeners can be provided either as free standing prefabricated systems or as concrete tanks with the internals fitted via a bridge system. Diameters can range from 2 through to 15 metres, with side wall depths from 1 to 4.5 metres.
